Accessibility

BATA's fleet includes 28 accessible vehicles with staff extensively trained to safely assist passengers with mobility challenges. The lift is available and encouraged for any passenger.

Training on how to board a vehicle using the lift will be provided by the driver to anyone wanting to use our accessibility equipment. For detailed BATA accessibility information, please call 605-692-2222 with your questions.

In coordination with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), BATA complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements for all of our accessible vehicles. To access detailed information on the specifics of these requirements, please go to the FTA website.

Our drivers are unable to assist lifting passengers. Because of this, we encourage passengers who need special assistance to bring an aide/escort.

What Is An Aide/Escort?

An aide/escort, is a person who is directly involved in assisting the passenger and can ride free of charge. Any person other than an aide/escort who is age 13 and over, is considered a guest and will be required to pay the regular fare.

Who Should Use An Aide/Escort?

Aides/escorts are required for transportation for anyone needing assistance with mobility, medication, carrying personal items, or other personal or medical needs during their travels.

Aide/escort Procedure

The aide/escort must be picked up from the same location as the passenger and return to the same location as the passenger. The aide/escort will be charged a regular fare for riding to other locations.
